I've been pointing my iPhone up at the sky recently, attracted by broken up cloud formations and autumnal clarity. This first one I took in Ronda, up in the mountains. The rest are from the Campo area. Photos by Brian Reyes.

This photo remains me of a song I used to listen to when I was at university, which seems like a lifetime ago. It was by a band called The Orb and the track was Little Fluffy Clouds. "What were the clouds like when you were young?"

This next one was a point and shoot moment during my early morning commute to Gibraltar from Algeciras. And no, I wasn't driving, I was on a bus.

And this last one is also a commuter moment. It's not a sky as such, but I love the effect of the dawn light and the Rock diffused by the fogged up window.

I found a dead crab walking on the shore near Algeciras, in the Parque del Centenario. The body of the crab had been picked at by something, birds or fish, but the claws were intact and had a lovely texture against the smooth pebbles. This was one of several pics I took that morning. These concrete rectangles are at the entrance to the park and, if the graffiti is anything to go by, serve as a good place to hang out for youngsters in Algeciras. It was cold that morning and there was no one there, only Su and Josh. If you bend down, you can frame the Rock in one of them.

Always remember to look down, particularly when you're walking on flat,weather beaten rocks on the shoreline. Nice patterns.

Also don't forget to look up, or you might miss the spectacular view. These rock formations stretch out from the shore into the sea, a natural shelf for fishermen to stand on.

I took all of these pics on my iPhone 4 using Camera + and ran them through a new app called Noir, which give them a fantastic, luminescent monochrome effect. Then I tweaked them on Filterstorm, cropping, a little sharpness, a fiddle on curves and perhaps some contrast. Then onto Instagram, though I only added an extra filter to the last one. There you go.

I was back in La Linea today with the council workers, who continue to protest daily. There's not much more to be said really. I've covered this before and nothing has changed. They still need to get paid. Photos by Brian Reyes.

I took the Lumix today and left the iPhone in my pocket. It was nice to get back to using a proper camera after weeks using nothing but the phone.

I was back in La Linea for the border protests this week. I've been covering this story for two years now but this last time I did something different: I left the camera at home and just took the iPhone.

It was weird being in the crowd with just this tiny phone. The camera gives you a feeling of protection and acts as a shield of sorts. It also singles you out as a journalist should the shit hit the fan, as has happened in the past. Even though media regulars at these protests are known by both the cops and the workers, it's easy to be confused as just one more of the crowd if all you've got in your hands is a phone.

So I felt a little naked, to say the least. But I like the results. Even so, I don't think I'll be repeating the exercise. In a situation that could potentially turn nasty, I like to have the camera.

My first video on The View. I filmed these plastic bags dancing in the street in Algeciras. Then I watched as an inflated glove rolled by and joined in, only to be crushed tragically under the wheels of a car. Oh well. And then the little chap from the bar next door decided to clean the street. Go on, humour me and watch it.

I turned the phone on myself this weekend, even though I hate having my picture taken. I was riding shotgun and liked my image in the rear view mirror remained static while the landscape whizzed by outside. I shot this one and a few more below. Photo by Brian Reyes.

This chap was trying to get across the road before the light turned green. I saw him skip off the pavement and he started running just as I lifted the phone.

She was just a random woman on a random street in a southern Spanish city. Now, poor thing, she's trapped in this frame.

And the last one, blurred but nice nontheless. It has a good sense of movement, methinks.

I've been playing with backlit photos recently. It started with this one, a couple I saw walking near the market in Algeciras while I was having a few beers with Su and Marco. I liked the way the sun picked out highlights against the dark background. When I processed it, I used FilterStorm to burn the image and make the contrast intense. I quite liked, so I tried these ones below too... Photos by Brian Reyes

This one was taken in a tunnel in Gibraltar. There was a shaft of light coming from somewhere and it pierced the blackness. I waited until one of my colleagues stepped into it, then pressed the shutter button. I burnt it too and again, I quite like the intense effect.

This last one is back at the market. Much the same treatment, but this time I filled the foreground with the arm of a market porter pulling a wheel barrow.

Landscape photos tend to bore me unless there are people in them. But here are a few I took on the camera because, well, the Rock looked good and the light was right.

There are no bodies in this second one but the Levanter cloud in the morning sunlight more than makes up for their absence.

No bodies in this third one either but it was the first photo I ever took on my iPhone and the light was really good. Evening this time.

I shot these photos early one morning as I walked across the runway from Spain into Gibraltar. The mist was thick and visibility was down to a few metres.

I liked the effect of the figures and cars emerging from the soup into the frame. I don't like sepia filters but they seemed to suit these shots and reminded me of a sandstorm.

This last one is a self portrait in shadow. I took in on my morning commute on the bus from Algeciras to La Linea. The sun was pouring through the left side of the bus and casting shadows on the road below. As we went under a bridge and the patterns jumped up to shoulder level, I pressed the shutter button...

I snatched these half asleep on a bus as it made its way on the winding road along the Strait of Gibraltar to Tarifa early one monring.

I barely touched them other than to remove the colour. There´s no overlays or manipulation, just reflections and the dreamy landscape.

When you´re walking around with a camera, it´s important to remember to look up. It´s common advice. Well, you should also remember to look down. I took this on my way out of the newsroom a few days ago. I love the shadows and the contrast, and the way the evening sunlight picks out the national day bunting and the two women walking through Casemates.

I suppose you could be puritanical about this and say that a picture taken on an iPhone and filtered through one or two apps that enhance colours and change textures is not really photography. But I don´t care. I love the way the iPhone has boosted my creativity, and I love the results. This is my last one from Cadiz. It´s a photo, not a painting.

A change form the norm today. A view across a different bay, this time in Cadiz. All taken on my iPhone, mostly using Camera+ and Instagram.

I wanted to capture the colours of this southern Spanish city and scenes from its streets.

The iPhone is discreet and lets you capture random moments with ease.

Sometimes it´s good to remember to look up too.

This is an ancient city by the sea and it´s easy to step back in time.

At night the narrow alleyways and streets are teeming with life.

We drank gin and tonic at 3.30pm too...

...then strolled through quiet streets and watched artists at work.

From the rocks, they swam as they did when they were kids.

And in the morning aftr a late night, the sun and the moon rose over Cadiz.

And another one on the iPhone, still in Algeciras. You can walk around with it in your hand and few people will notice you're taking pics. It's very discreet. I took this using Camera Genius, which has a handy featue that turns the screen into a large shutter button. It also lets you focus and adjust exposure independently. It has some nifty filters too, as you can probably tell from the feel in this pic.

La Linea’s municipal workforce has 1000 employees, but you would be hard pressed to tell from the meagre turnout at the daily border protests over unpaid salaries.

The workers have not been paid for three months but numbers at the morning demonstrations dwindle by the day. At this one there were barely 11 workers present, bolstered by a dozen or so full-time union activists. It's hard to comprehend. If I hadn't been paid in three months, I know where I'd be. Ceuta 2005. La pobreza del País vecino ha sido siempre de marcada evidencia en las calles de Ceuta. Como si de un mercado se tratara, los contenedores de la Ciudad Autónoma, han sido fundamentales en la supervivencia de muchos de los que cruzaban la frontera hacia Ceuta. En la imagen de la izquierda, descalzo y casi engullido, busca todo aquello que le pueda servir de utilidad para un futuro intercambio. En la imagen de la derecha, dos menores de edad fuera de toda su apariencia inocente, se prostituyen con cualquiera que acepte, minutos después fueron interceptadas por la Policía Nacional.
